Windows speaks German

In Windows, you can have your system read aloud texts through computer-installed voice. You can also save these texts as sound files with an additional program. We show you how to make Windows speak sentences without accent in German.

Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7 come with a simple screen reader program called Sprachausgabe. We will show you how to start and set up this program in Windows 7 in the photo display Activation of speech output in Windows. The tool reads the text on the screen and describes some events such as open windows on the desktop and error messages. It also reads all user keys aloud.

German voice of Windows
Under Windows 7 and Vista, the female voice of Microsoft's Anna computer is pre-installed. Microsoft Sam's voice speaks on Windows XP. Computer sounds offer quite good quality when reading English texts aloud, but are not suitable for other foreign languages. Unfortunately, Windows sound production therefore only offers good English sound reproduction. Only after installing a German voice file, Windows speaks German without emphasis.

Install the German language package
On the Balabolka manufacturer's website, a free voice output tool, you can find free computer voices in a variety of downloadable languages, including German. Only if you are using a 32-bit operating system, download and install the RealSpeak TTS German computer sound from the Balabolka site. You will then receive a voice computer called Scansoft Steffi. You can now choose between Steffi and Microsoft's original sound in Windows audio output.

Balabolka as an alternative
If you want to put full Word or PDF texts in music, the free Balabolka language program offers valuable services. The software works on Windows PCs with 32 and 64 bit. With Balabolka (Russian for gossip) you can have texts read aloud from your computer in different languages ​​and save them as audio files. In addition to German and English, the program also speaks French, Italian and Spanish. Languages ​​are not automatically available to you after you have installed Balabolka, but they must be downloaded and installed separately from the manufacturer's website.

This is how sound production works with Balabolka
Balabolka looks like a program for editing text after the first start. There is a simple reason for this: In the low text window you can type or copy your text. Balabolka will read you in the selected computer voice with one click on the Read the selected text button. Balabolka can also process several blocks of text at once in the text field. All standard computer sounds can be used.
